Tuskegee University Senior Nursing student, Miss Sandy Decembre, was awarded the Alabama Public Health Associates, Inc. (AIPHA) Ruth Harrell Scholarship and the AIPHA Educational Scholarship for 2018-2019. This was the first time in AIPHA’s history that a single student was awarded both Scholarships. Sandy, a native of Haiti, has plans to return there as a Nurse Practitioner and provide compassionate quality healthcare. The Tuskegee School of Nursing and Allied Health (SONAH) and Alumni are proud to have this young lady represent the program.

The Alabama Public Health Association aspires to be the recognized leader and key resource on public health issues and policy in Alabama and the clearinghouse for public health education with a broad and diverse membership of citizens and organizations.

The Alabama Public Health Association, Inc., is an association of individuals and organizations interested in public health in Alabama. The mission of the Association is to:

  • Link individuals and organizations in addressing public health issues;
  • Advocate public health policy
  • Support the education of its members and the public on public health issues;
  • Enhance the ability of its members to promote and protect personal, environmental and community health.

Sandy Decembre exemplified leadership as she rallied to send aid to Haiti after Hurricane Matthew devastated the country in 2016. We are certain she is most deserving of the AlPHA Scholarships which will be used to prepare her to be able do even more for her beloved country (Haiti)..
